Applications for the Toshizo Watanabe International Scholarship, which supports refugee students’ studies and research at colleges and graduate institutions, are now being accepted by the Pathways Japan Foundation. This scholarship, provided by a scholarship fund established through a donation from Mr. Toshizo Watanabe, will support individuals from refugee and displaced backgrounds living in Japan who do not yet have status as permanent residents in their studies and research at graduate and undergraduate levels.

Students from Syria, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Ukraine, or other refugee-related nationalities who will enroll in a university or graduate program in April 2023 or between September and October 2023 may be eligible for scholarships.
We would be grateful if you could let people with refugee backgrounds who need education or research at universities and graduate schools and continue or achieve resident status as a student know about and introduce this award.

Application period: 5th Dec, 2022 (Mon) – 25th Jan, 2023 (Wed) 8:00pm

info sessions 23rd Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The second session is on January 14, 2023, on a Saturday from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.
6–8 scholars will be selected (depending on the level of support required for the recruits).
Benefits of the scholarship include tuition and fees, a living expense subsidy, a four-year undergraduate maximum, and the number of years required to complete graduate school degrees.

Designed for those with a history of being a refugee, who do not have the status of a permanent resident, and who are residing in Japan under a status of residence such as that of a college student, a designated activity, a technical or humanities professional, or a family resident.

Support is available to applicants who are able to enroll in a higher education institution and the field of their choice, from junior college to university doctoral programs, and is not restricted to specific affiliated universities. * A “full scholarship” that covers enrollment, tuition fees, and living expenses.
