The German government says 160 people have been killed in floods that have hit Western Europe for days.
As of July 14, 2021, Germany and other countries such as Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Luxembourg have been hit by floods caused by heavy rains that flood rivers.
The Rhineland-Palatinate government has so far been the worst hit since it lost 112 people. The other victims are residents of North Rhine-Westphalia.
In addition to the victims, Deutsche Welle reports that other people have been reported missing, suspected of being swept away by the floods.
In support of the floods, German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Sunday visited the affected areas, saying the government would step up its efforts to help those affected by the floods.

He said that in order to avoid long-term disasters, action should be taken to prevent climate change.
“Germany is a great country. We will face this challenge in the short term but also in the long run. We must accelerate the fight against climate change. ”
